Troubleshooting ER Mobile

Is your location not tracking correctly? Data not syncing? Start here for quick fixes to the most common problems.

Before You Begin

Check Your App Version

Always ensure you are updated to the latest version of ER Mobile. Running an outdated version is one of the most common causes of sync errors and missing features.

Enable Auto-Updates

To avoid version issues in the future, enable automatic app updates on your device. On Android: Play Store → Profile icon → Manage apps and device → Update settings.

caution

If you see a blank map or missing event categories after logging in, the initial sync may not have completed. Stay connected to the internet and wait a few more minutes, or go to Settings and tap Sync to trigger it manually.

Common Sync Issues

If something you expect to see in the app isn't showing up (such as an event type or patrol type), try forcing a sync:

  1. Make sure you have an active internet connection — WiFi is recommended
  2. Stop any active patrol or tracking session before proceeding (or wait until you no longer need to track location)
  3. Open your app switcher and fully swipe away EarthRanger to close it.
  4. Reopen the app — you should see the sync screen with the EarthRanger logo appear automatically.

If the sync screen doesn't appear or the missing content still isn't showing, check that your account has been granted the correct permissions for that event or patrol type.

Troubleshooting

ProblemWhat to try
Can't log inDouble-check your site name (e.g. asia, not asia.pamdas.org). Check your username and password.
GPS not recording / location stuck / gaps in your trackCheck battery optimization settings. The system may be killing the app in the background.
Events stuck on "Pending Sync"Ensure you have an active internet connection, go to Settings and tap Sync
Map or event types not loadingThe initial sync may not have completed. Stay online for 3–5 minutes or go to Settings and tap Sync.
App crashes or freezesCheck that you are running the latest version of ER Mobile.
Data Loss Risk

Do not log out or delete the ER Mobile app unless all your data has synced. If you log out before your data has uploaded, all locally saved events and tracks will be permanently erased from your device. This data cannot be recovered.
