Events
Learn how to record what happens in the field - wildlife sightings, incidents, and other events — with or without an internet connection.
Recording an Event in the field
Events are things that happen in the field. They can be incidents you record in the field (like a wildlife sighting, human wildlife conflict incident or a fire)
- Tap the blue + (Add Event) button on the map view or the Events tab or long-press a location on the map view.
- Select the Category (group) of the event you want to create (e.g., Wildlife Data, Wildlife Conflict, Human Impacts)
Note: See Tip below to simplify this step - Select the specific Event Type within that category (e.g., Wildlife Sighting, Property Damage, Crop Damage, Human Injury)
- Fill in the event form:
- Form fields: contain the details of your event. Depending on the field type, they can be filled in with text, numbers or by selecting from dropdowns or checkboxes.
- Every form automatically includes a field for Photos: (Tap the attachment field to take a photo or select one from your gallery) and Notes: (To add any additional text context about the observation).
- The event Location: is captured automatically (via GPS) as well as the Event time and Event date. If you are offline, coordinates will appear greyed out but are still recorded and editable.
- Tap Submit to save the event.
If you are offline when you submit, the event will be saved as a Pending Sync item and uploaded automatically when you reconnect.
Prefer to view all event types in one list and reduce the number of clicks? Go to Settings and enable Merge Event Categories to see all event types together, rather than grouped by category.
ER Mobile supports photo attachments only. Video files cannot be attached to events through the mobile app.
Offline Use & Data Sync
ER Mobile is designed for field use where connectivity is unreliable. Your data is always saved locally first, then synced when a connection is available.
The "Zero Pending" Rule
Before ending your mission or logging out, check the Events tab and confirm every event shows a status of Synced (green) — not Draft or Pending Sync.
- Reconnect to the internet (mobile data or Wi-Fi).
- Go to the Events tab and review the status shown next to each event.
- Wait until every event shows Synced (green) before logging out or powering off.
- If an event doesn't sync automatically, go to Settings and tap Sync to trigger it manually.
Do not log out while any event is still marked "Draft" or "Pending Sync". If you log out before your data has uploaded, all locally saved events and tracks will be permanently erased from your device. This data cannot be recovered.
